What is MedMaps.co.uk?

The purpose of this website is to offer free mindmaps to aid medical education.

Mindmaping is a way of incorporating imagery, colour, and visual-spatial arrangement to your notes. These elements have been separately shown to improve recall of learnt material. There is also a recent study formally evaluating mindmaps by Farrand and colleagues in 2002 (see 'Links').

Mindmapping also allows for the whole topic to be displayed on a single page, which increases revision speed and allows you to see connections between different ideas more easily.

One of the main disadvantages of mindmapping is that it often takes too long to produce a mindmap and there are many topics to be covered in medicine. One of the aims of this website is to help you overcome this problem.

You should use these mindmaps as templates and alter them according to your needs. Active learning can only take place if you personalise them. To minimise the amount of work you need to do, we try to make all mindmaps as logical and easy to follow as possible, but please let us know if there are any ambiguities.

The mindmaps are supplied in four formats: png, jpeg, pdf, and mgmf. 'png' is the format with the best quality and will open when you click on the topic label. 'pdf' and 'jpeg' are available in case your browser does not support 'png'. The 'mgmf' format is used by the program used to create these mindmaps: 'MindGenius'. If you have this program it will be easier to personalise your mindmaps. We found this program easy to learn and use, but there are several others (see 'Links').

Tip: Mindmaps in this website are meant to be read in the following order: top right branches followed by bottom right, top left, and bottom left branches.

Tip 2: Clicking on the 'book' icon will redirect you to a mindmap relevant to the branch the icon is in.

Disclaimer

Although every effort is made to ensure factual accuracy, the constantly evolving field of medicine will inevitably result in mindmaps becoming out-of-date. Please use them only as guidance to aid learning rather than essential reference material. We welcome any feedback or help in the developing of this website.

We hope you find this website a useful and original resource to aid your learning!
